Do you want to go to college but don't know how to pay for it? ​

Apply for Washington Application for State Financial Aid (WASFA). WASFA is state financial aid for students not eligible for federal student aid. Although the application is open year-round, it is best to apply October 1 when students typically start applying for the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

For youth ages 7-17 enrolled in the Cowlitz Indian Tribe or who have a familial relationship with the tribe or any federally recognized tribe. There are opportunities for leadership positions, going to camps and on day trips, and connect with your culture with other youth experiencing the same thing

The foundation continues the long-standing Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander culture of building community and sharing through community events, education, music and the art of hula in Pacific Northwest communities throughout Washington and Oregon for future generations. The majority of events the foundation hosts are free and open to the community. 
Latino Community Resource Group

A coalition of individuals and organizations that promote the success and empowerment of the Latino community through facilitating outreach, education, and community connections.
League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC)
Scholarships and leadership development programs for Hispanic youth. Its mission is to advance the economic condition, educational attainment, political influence, housing, health and civil rights of the Hispanic population of the United States. For more information, email [email protected].

Free citizenship classes teach students English language skills and knowledge of U.S. history and civics needed to pass the citizenship exam. Lutheran Community Services offers assistance with the N-400 Application for Citizenship, the Disability Waiver, Request for reduced fee and the Naturalization Application Fee Waiver.
  • St. Andrew’s Lutheran Church: Mondays from 6:30-8 pm.
  • Brandt Terrace: Wednesdays from 3-4:30 pm (partially taught in Russian).
  • Kirkland Union Plaza: Mondays from 3-4:30 pm (partially taught in Russian).
  • Trinity Lutheran Church: Wednesdays from 1-2:30 pm (partially taught in Russian).
Small group and one-on-one classes offered. Call to register.​
English as a Second Language (ESL) Tutoring

For refugees who are unable to attend ESL classes. A tutor works one-on-one with a student, providing an individualized curriculum that suits the specific needs. Many students with ESL tutors are stay-at-home parents or working adults and would not otherwise have access  to learning English. All tutors are experienced volunteers and will meet at the student’s home for three hours per week for six months to one year.
Immigration Counseling and Advocacy Program

Receive counseling from accredited immigration attorneys about your rights and responsibilities pertaining to their immigration status, assistance with all immigration forms and applications, and representation before the U.S.C.I.S. and Immigration Court. Among many others services, the program offers assistance with obtaining lawful permanent residency (green card), family-based applications and  visas, employment authorization, and visas for crime victims or survivors of human trafficking, domestic violence, sexual assault, and child sexual abuse.
Promoting Refugee Integration, Mobility, and Empowerment (PRIME)

Free immigration legal assistance and case management services for refugees and asylum seekers. Staff work closely with refugees to determine needs, establish goals and create a path to success. This may involve being connected to medical care, affordable housing, ESL conversation circles, and transportation access. Any refugee, asylee, Special Immigrant Visa holder, AmerAsian, or T/U Visa holder who has been in the United States for less than five years can access PRIME Case Management.

Obtaining U.S. citizenship
Washington New Americans program
Learn how to obtain citizenship and search for attorneys and nonprofit organizations near you who specialize in assisting people with obtaining U.S. citizenship. Attorneys offer application assistance and legal services at a cost; some offer reduced fees or installments. Nonprofit organizations offer free or low-cost application assistance.
Washington State Department of Social and Health Services: Naturalization Program
Provides citizenship services to documented immigrants who receive public assistance through cash, medical, or food assistance programs administered by DSHS.  This includes immigrants who are barred from federal benefits because of their immigration status and who are eligible to naturalize, or are within one year of being eligible to naturalize.
